Union organizing and strikes are on the rise. While the federal law governing labor-management relations has changed little in decades, recent decisions of the National Labor Relations Board and evolving methods of workplace protest are changing the landscape of traditional union activity.

This course examines the fundamental provisions of the National Labor Relations Act and its amendments relating to labor strikes, picketing, boycotts, and other protest activities, in both union and non-union workplaces. Attendees will gain insight into the scope of workers’ protected rights and the restrictions on employers’ responses in times of labor conflict.

Lecturer Bio

William Werner, Esq.

Bill Werner is an Associate Professor in the William F. Harrah College of Hospitality at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in labor-management relations, employment law, and risk management.

Prior to his appointment to the UNLV faculty, Bill practiced labor and employment law in Las Vegas, primarily as in-house counsel for two major casino/hotel operators.

He received his B.A. from The Ohio State University and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
