Description

This CLE course provides a practical roadmap to New Jersey landlord-tenant law, focusing on the statutory framework governing residential and commercial leasing, landlord and tenant rights and obligations, and landlord-tenant litigation. Participants will examine key provisions of the New Jersey Security Deposit Act, the Anti-Eviction Act, and the Summary Dispossess Act, as well as essential lease drafting considerations, including security deposits, rent provisions, use restrictions, maintenance obligations, assignments and subleases, attorney's fee provisions, required disclosures, and regulatory compliance.

The program also reviews eviction procedures in the Landlord/Tenant Part of the Special Civil Part, including actions based on nonpayment of rent, holdover tenancies, lease violations, property damage, and disorderly conduct. Through discussion of applicable statutes and practical guidance, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the legal principles and procedural requirements governing landlord-tenant practice in New Jersey.

Bruce E. Gudin, Esq.

Bruce E. Gudin, Esq. a partner in the Newark firm of Ehrlich, Petriello, Gudin & Plaza, P.C., concentrates his practice in the representation of property owners and property management companies for Landlord Tenant and related litigation and transactional matters.

He attended Law School at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, New York and Received a Juris Doctor from Cardozo 1989.

He has been with Ehrlich, Petriello, Gudin & Plaza, P.C.as an Associate, April, 1989-1997 and as a Partner, from 1997 to the Present.

Since 1989 his practice has evolved from general civil, criminal, and family law matters in NY and NJ to the point where his work is limited to landlord/tenant and related matters in New Jersey. Since 2011 Bruce has been the co-author of Landlord Tenant and Related Issues in the Superior Court, published by NJ ICLE which is recognized in the State as the seminal publication on the subject. He is a frequent lecturer on the subject of Landlord/Tenant Law, Residential and Commercial Evictions in New Jersey, Commercial Leasing Considerations, and Section 8 Housing in New Jersey for NJICLE and other private CLE providers. He is currently counsel to the New Jersey Property Owners Assn. (www.POANJ.Org) and served two terms as President and is an active member of the New Jersey Apartment Assn. (www.NJAA.com) where he consults on legislative matters. Bruce worked closely with the New Jersey Law Revision Commission to completely rewrite the body of law on eviction matters. He has the distinguished recognition of a SuperLawyer® in New Jersey since 2012, a Top Attorney in NJ and a Top Attorney in Real Estate Law as recognized by his peers and is also recognized as an expert on the subject having been qualified as such in a litigation matter in the Superior Court.
