Description

Cannabis was legalized in New York under the Marijuana Regulation and Tax Act. During the tense negotiations and against the lobbying of trade groups such as the New York Medical Cannabis Industry, cannabis advocates fought for the inclusion of home cultivation in the new law. To our astonishment, we received word on March 30 that we had prevailed, and homegrown was included in the final version of the bill.

In the mad rush for money that has since taken over the cannabis industry, home grow does not get the same attention, but it is in fact one of the fastest growing sectors of the cannabis industry.

In this course, you will learn the rules as they apply to home cultivators - where they can grow, how many plants, and what the security restrictions entail. You’ll also learn a little bit about the cannabis plant, how to grow it, how companies can service this market through the sale of seeds and clones and other materials, how the law can be improved to expand access to cannabis plants for the people most harmed by the war on drugs and to give patients better access to the medicinal properties of the cannabis plant.

Lecturer Bio

Michael McGuire, Esq.

Mike is a 2000 graduate of Fordham Law School and has worked in the cannabis industry, with an emphasis on home cultivation, since 2017. Mike was the founder of StableGarden, a home cultivation education and resource company, that operated in Massachusetts from 2018 to 2022. Mike was the Chair of the Home Cultivation Committee of the New York City and Hudson Valley Cannabis Industry Association during the successful fight to secure the right to grow cannabis at home in New York.

Mike recently was appointed Executive Director of the Home Cultivation Association of New York, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding and protecting access to the living cannabis plant in New York and beyond.
